Innocence Project

In North America, Kroll is providing pro bono investigative assistance to the Innocence Project, a national litigation and public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people and reforming the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.  Kroll provides assistance to the Innocence Project on a number of different matters, primarily locating witnesses, conducting background research, and advising on overall investigative strategy.

World Wildlife Federation (WWF)

Under a partnership launched in early 2008, Kroll provides pro bono investigative assistance to the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) in Asia. Kroll recently completed a successful project in Hong Kong in support of a prominent global WWF campaign focusing on international sustainable fishing.

Morrison & Foerster

Since 2008 Kroll has been partnering with Morrison & Foerster to provide support on their pro bono matters.  Highly committed to and recognized for their pro bono work, Morrison & Foerster calls on Kroll for litigation support, investigations, and electronic discovery.  Cases to date have involved issues such as worker's rights, fraud, a literary estate, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Spectaculu

In Latin America, Kroll's Brazil office has been providing support to Spectaculu, a school that provides underprivileged young people with technical/vocational training. Kroll has conducted a review of the organization’s internal processes and controls, and helped implement a more robust system. On an ongoing basis, we audit the procedures to ensure that our recommendations are being followed. Kroll employees have also taught workshops to the Spectaculu students.

Transparency International

Since late 2008, Kroll's European region has been working with Transparency International (TI), the world’s leading NGO focused on transparency and anti-corruption issues. Our Consulting Services group has helped TI by carrying out due diligence on a wide variety of potential partners, providing security consulting for legal advocacy centres in high-risk territories, and performing analysis of anti-corruption funding.

Center on Wrongful Convictions

Kroll provides investigative support to attorneys with the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University’s Law School (CWC). CWC seeks to exonerate clients who were wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit. Kroll investigators conduct interviews, locate witnesses, analyze trial transcripts, prepare detailed background reports and engage in trial preparation for the CWC in its representation of clients.

Security Consulting

We have provided significantly discounted security consulting to the Haven for Hope Project, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help reduce homelessness in the San Antonio area by providing homeless people the resources, skills and assistance necessary to become self-sufficient. We have also provided pro bono Security Consulting & Engineering to the Austin-area Salvation Army and several local schools.

Kroll has also provided deeply discounted investigations and security consulting to Human Rights Watch, an international non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world by investigating and exposing human rights violations. Kroll carried out investigations in several European cities and has provided a series of recommendations to the organization regarding security matters.

Comic Relief

Early in 2009, Kroll's Hong Kong office produced pro bono due diligence reports on five potential charity partners for Comic Relief, a UK-based registered charity whose focus is on relieving world poverty.

New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI)

Kroll is working with New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI) for a matter in which NYLPI is defending the rights of several developmentally disabled adults. NYLPI is attempting to obtain proper care and guardianship for their clients, and Kroll is conducting research to identify individuals relevant to NYLPI’s representation.

Background Screening

Background Screening is continuing its program of providing free background checks to several non-profit organizations. We provide free background checks on all the volunteers for Gilda’s Club – a non-profit organization that provides meeting places where men, women and children living with cancer and their families and friends join with others to build emotional and social support as a supplement to medical care. Background Screening also provides free background checks for Make a Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. We also provide free background checks to Our Kids, Inc., an organization that provides medical and psychological services for children who may have experienced sexual abuse; and seeks to increase community awareness, conduct research, and offer education and training about child maltreatment.

Training & Education

Identity Theft Education

In September 2008, Kroll Fraud Solutions launched its identity theft education program in Tennessee. The program aims to help young people understand credit and how they can safeguard their personal information to reduce the risk of identity theft. The curriculum covers three primary areas: what you need to know about credit; the facts about identity theft; and internet safety and how to protect yourself. By the end of the 2009 school year, we had made 11 visits to 10 different schools in the Middle Tennessee area.

Through our work in the high schools, we became affiliated with the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, a national organization that works to promote education for financial literacy in schools. Additionally, in January 2009, several investigators were involved in providing identity theft counseling and educational materials to attendees at the All About Women annual event in Nashville.

Seguridad Ciudadana

Kroll's Mexico team designed a “street smarts” program for Seguridad Ciudadana, a Mexico-based NGO focused on enhancing public safety and security.  Kroll continues to work with the NGO jointly providing training and assistance to a range of audiences.

Cybercrime and Forensics Training

In November 2008, Kroll Managing Director Scott Warren played a leading role at the Society for the Policing of Cyberspace (POLCYB) Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. Scott led several panels, presented on developments in U.S. electronic discovery, and is leading an initiative to create a cybercrime investigation certification program. These projects are largely designed to help improve the social infrastructure for dealing with cybercrime and digital evidence in the region and globally.
