Karl undertakes assignments for distressed companies, financiers, secured and unsecured lenders, AMC, fund houses, law enforcement authorities, regulators and courts in Hong Kong, China, the U.S., Southeast Asia and offshore jurisdictions.
Karl took on a key role in assisting the restructuring of an Israel fintech company under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a U.S. Court, including working alongside with legal advisors and financial advisors of creditors who filed over USD 4 billion claims against the debtor and its entities, recovering and securing realizable assets of the debtors, monitoring cash flow and receivables of the debtors, and assisting the debtors to prepare its plan of reorganization.
Karl has devoted considerable time in Beijing working with the liquidators of a NASDAQ-listed Chinese biotechnology company to pursue a USD 400 million negligence claim in Hong Kong against the former auditor of the company. Karl’s assignment includes identifying negligent audit work performed in China, investigating the accounting fraud and related party transactions of the company, establishing the fund flow and the use of USD 670 million raised from the U.S. securities market.
Karl also has extensive experience in assets recovery, including working with liquidators of Chinese property developers to locate hidden assets onshore, assisting an offshore fund to repatriate the proceeds of fraud distributed in different jurisdictions, and assisting receivers to take controls of the entire shares and assets of a BVI-registered company that owns over 100 office units in Shanghai with market value of RMB 1.5 billion.
Karl contributes to the regulators and law enforcement authorities in preparing accounting expert evidence reports, fund tracing analysis, valuation and due diligence in a number of engagements.
Karl holds a Bachelor in Business Administration and Management from the University of Bath. He is a Certified Public Accountant from CPA Australia. He is also a Member of the Restructuring and Insolvency Faculty of the HKICPA, and he was awarded the specialist qualification in Insolvency (SQ, Insolvency) by the HKICPA.
