New York, NY – Duff & Phelps, the global advisor that protects, restores and maximizes value for clients, today announced that it will host its fifth annual IP Value Summit on November 28-29, 2018, at The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. As with prior years, the 2018 Summit will bring together corporate executives, attorneys, investors and other experts to discuss intellectual property best practices, case studies, challenges and opportunities.
The 2018 IP Value Summit will specifically focus on how disruptive technologies, such as cryptocurrency and blockchain, are altering the IP landscape across all industries. Related topics of interest will include the increasing globalization of intellectual property strategy and monetization; the benefits and tradeoffs of different forms of intellectual property; issues related to the valuation and taxation of the digitized economy; surveying of recent decisions in patent, copyright and trade secret litigation; and the impact of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on IP tax planning.
“We are looking forward to hosting our fifth annual IP Value Summit – a unique event that is greatly enhanced by the diversity of thinking from our distinguished clients and industry peers,” said Chris Bakewell, Duff & Phelps Global Head of Intellectual Property Advisory Services. “Our goal is to bring together experts to discuss the latest issues impacting intellectual property from all perspectives, and our programming and panelists are ideally positioned to do so.”
In addition to the keynote speakers identified below, the two-day program is formally structured around strategies for optimizing IP across three areas: Valuation and M&A, Tax and Transfer Pricing and Litigation and Licensing.
Keynote speakers include the following:
- Opening Keynote: Jonathan “Jon” Wood currently serves as the executive director of innovation and collaboration at Bridgestone Americas Inc. He is responsible for championing the company’s innovation efforts while forging and maintaining relationships with universities, industry researchers, think tanks, inventors and entrepreneurs to identify new product and market opportunities.
