The global disruption brought about by COVID-19 has organizations and employees adjusting to the new normal of working from home. However, with many employees managing sensitive corporate data, cyber security breaches are a growing concern, and organizations find themselves unprepared to manage and mitigate the security risks. Bad actors seek to exploit these vulnerabilities and traditional security measures cannot fully protect a remote staff without adaption.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Alan Brill, Senior Managing Director in the Cyber Risk practice of Kroll, a division of Duff & Phelps, states “If we recognize disruption to be the new normal, companies need to ensure they’ve architected systems to provide security in whatever mode they’re operating in, normal or distributed.” Alan further highlights that organizations will always choose business continuity no matter the type of disruption. This makes it imperative that organizations discuss various risks early and often, and revisit triage plans, for the risks we face today will not be the ones we face tomorrow.
