Alan Brill Discusses Mastercard's Use of Selfie Technology to Verify Payments on NBC Nightly News

MasterCard is rolling out selfie technology that will let you verify payments with your face, and with online fraud rampant, cyber security experts say selfies could be a solution.

NBC Nightly News recently featured Alan Brill, Senior Managing Director in Kroll’s Cyber Security and Investigations practice, on a segment about this advancement in the use of biometrics technology for identity verification. The facial recognition capabilities of cameras in smartphones will allow users to take a real-time selfie as a replacement for PIN codes and passwords. Ninety-two percent of those who tested the new technology confirmed that using a selfie was more convenient and 83 percent agreed that it was also more secure.

While some privacy advocates are wary about the effects of sharing biometrics information, many people find that it is the most secure option, as Brill reaffirms that “it is very hard to counterfeit your face or your fingerprints.”
