Klaus-Martin Haussmann Discusses the Resilience of Private Equity in Germany During the Pandemic

Klaus-Martin Haussmann, Managing Director in Duff & Phelps Transaction Advisory Services practice in Germany, was recently featured on The Unquote’s Private Equity Podcast  “Made in Germany” episode, where he discussed the resilience of the PE industry in Germany during the pandemic.

In the podcast, Klaus-Martin comments on how the use of government schemes and lockdown leniency in Germany has helped keep the PE industry afloat during the pandemic. This enabled high levels of productivity across sectors such as automotive, as companies were able to use local suppliers to facilitate the extra demand in Germany to stay afloat.

Klaus-Martin suggests the landscape for buyers and sellers has changed as we transition into the “new normal,” and there is no clear indication as to how long COVID-19 will continue to affect the market. Klaus-Martin states deals and earnout arrangements should be reviewed separately and businesses are now focusing on internal restructuring and reviewing their own portfolios. However, the PE market remains active.
