Anju Chopra: Data Security Strategies and Todays Biggest Risks

Third parties and vendors. The cloud. Global regulatory proliferation. API explosion. “Big data” as the biggest understatement ever. Get an insider’s view on the strategies to manage these data security risks and more in this video replay of a panel discussion with Anju Chopra, Senior Vice President of Technology in Kroll’s Identity Theft and Breach Notification practice, and fellow panelists* at the recent Ai4 Cybersecurity Conference.

Although their insights reflected their varying roles and industry sectors, panelists shared a common concern that data security is often not prioritized, whether it be at the organizational level or in the technology companies use. As Anju noted, “Security by design is not inherent in product design. It is an offshoot after [a product] is completed and often comes after an ‘oops, we should have been thinking about this’ moment.”

Panelists also agreed that addressing the risks posed by third parties – and the related issue of APIs – is a data security imperative. Anju shared that these days, when Kroll scans the deep and dark web for clients, “the first thing we see is that most data breaches are coming from vendors.” Anju also warned that, “There are so many APIs coming, if you’re not auditing and logging that data, you would never know where anomalies are.”

Anju and the panelists tackle these topics and more in this jam-packed session, including:

  • Pros and cons of moving to the cloud
  • Difficulties in balancing convenience and speed with security measures
  • Main request cyber insurers are getting today
  • How nation-states and terrorist groups are targeting data from recycled hardware
  • Regulatory proliferation and consumer expectations as data security game-changers
  • AI modeling and machine learning
  • Why data security is not just IT’s responsibility
