James Dunn

Managing Director

James Dunn is Managing Director in the Cyber Risk business, based in Dallas.

James leverages more than 15 years of digital forensics and incident response experience in assisting major businesses with cyber investigations and disaster recovery projects. He has a proven track record of leading large teams during complex security incidents for Fortune 500 clients and working in large enterprise environments with multi-cloud footprints.

Alongside his incident investigation experience, James has supported clients with building out incident response processes and plans and facilitated tabletop exercises at both the technical and executive stakeholder levels. James has extensive experience in investigating intellectual property theft and working as an expert witness. He is also a credited contributor to the MITRE ATT&CK framework.

Prior to joining Kroll, James served as Cybersecurity Director at KPMG. Before that, he held the title of Cybersecurity Senior Manager at Ernst & Young. James also held the position of Director of Digital Forensics at Sony Pictures Entertainment, leading the internal incident response team in responding quickly and effectively to the November 2014 breach.

James received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. He also holds numerous certifications, including Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) Certified Forensic Analyst, GIAC Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA), GIAC Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM), GIAC Defending Against Malware Threats (GDAT) and GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA).
