Katsumi has extensive experience in business enterprise valuations, exchange ratios, valuations of goodwill and intellectual properties and other related issues. His experience includes valuation of both minority and controlling interests in closely-held companies for purposes of acquisition and divestiture pricing, tax planning and financing.
Katsumi’s engagement highlights include performing valuations and reviews of portfolios for various financial services firms such as investment banks, commercial banks, investment funds and real estate funds; performing valuations across a wide range of other industries such as industrial products, consumer products, information technology services, entertainment and transportation; providing advisory and valuation services to assist clients in defensive measures against a hostile buyout or going-private transactions; conducting valuations of intangible assets (e.g., customer relationships, contract rights) for financial services firms and industrial products companies for financial reporting purposes; conducting valuations of intellectual properties for consumer products companies for tax and transfer pricing purposes; and advising on acquisitions, divestitures and corporate restructurings with particularly strong experience in transaction structure planning.
Katsumi joined Kroll (formerly Duff & Phelps) from MISUZU Financial Advisors, formerly part of the PricewaterhouseCoopers network of companies, where he was a manager in the Corporate Finance Advisory business unit since 2002. Prior to this, Katsumi worked for the Strategy for International Transactions Division of Arthur Andersen Tax Business Advisory in Tokyo, where he experienced international tax service, transfer pricing and valuation service. He also worked for an accounting office, where he advised industrial corporations on reorganizations, divestitures and restructurings.
Katsumi received his BA in economics from Waseda University in Tokyo. He is also a certified public tax accountant of Japan.
